The “horse capital of Texas” is also a hidden gem homebuyers are falling in love with.

Located along the US Highway 380 between Denton and McKinney, Aubrey combines a shared sense of community, natural charm and friendly neighbors. A less than 30-minute drive to Plano or Frisco makes this small town particularly attractive to commuters. Denton is 15 minutes away. Dallas less than 40.

Once the sole province of horse ranchers, Aubrey is now home to vibrant master-planned communities. Sandbrock Ranch is inspired by Aubrey’s equine heritage. The Carriage House amenity complex is where neighbors gather for coffee and conversation. Parks, playgrounds, a resort-style pool, splash pad, dog park, event lawn and a herd of Oreo cows all make Sandbrock Ranch a unique place to set down roots.

Union Park trades on the beauty of the surrounding countryside. The heart of the community is Central Park, a 30-acre natural playground featuring trails, open fields and wooded areas. Children of all abilities can play all day at Exploration Park, which is ADA accessible. A pool, open-air kitchen, fishing pond and dog park keep residents active.

Young Aubrey residents are served by either Aubrey ISD or Denton ISD. Aubrey ISD is small but mighty with one high school, one middle school, two elementary schools and a pre-K and daycare center. Aubrey High school was recently named to the 2021 U.S. News Best High Schools list. The district received an A on the 2019 Texas Education Agency accountability report (the last year such a report was generated due to Covid).

Denton ISD offers all of the programs available to larger districts while maintaining the small-town ambiance parents look for. Niche rated the district the fourth best district in Denton County for 2022. Teachers average 10 years’ experience. More than 98 percent of students graduate high school.

Aubrey may be a small town, but a fantastic North Texas location means families never lack for dining, shopping and entertainment options. Aubrey possesses a charming downtown packed with locally owned shops and restaurants. Nancy Cate’s Bakeshop, Upper Park Café, World Famous MOMS, Bebo’s and Kathy’s Café are all favorites.

Residents also enjoy a taste of Tuscany at Fortunata Winery.

A preferred shopping destination is The Shops at Legacy and Legacy West. Featuring designer duds, bountiful boutiques, upscale eateries, live music and more, the two complexes are a mecca for gourmands and fashionistas alike. Just up the road from the Legacy centers, sports enthusiasts can visit the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters at the Star in Frisco.

Adventures of the outdoor sort can be found at Ray Roberts State Park, Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch, Chairy Orchard Park and TX-Ture Farm.
